Unforgettable Images from the Milestones in Your Life

Free Classes Help You Take Better Snapshots

I love teaching community groups how to take better pictures. "Seize the Day" is a reminder that each day brings new treasures, moments that slip through our fingers if we're not really paying attention. Stop looking, and SEE! I start out with basic composition and lighting for cell phone cameras; for more advanced groups, I teach how to take advantage of the main settings on your digital SLR or mirrorless camera to craft the shot that you're picturing in your head.

Custom Photo Sessions Capture Memories as Artwork to Hang on the Wall

When was the last time you got your loved ones together for a good picture, one in which you weren't hiding behind the camera? Have you ever looked at the photos in magazines and wished you had just one that good of your kids, or parents, or pets? Let me guide you through the choices of clothing, location and posing to create iconic canvas art that will grace your living room wall for years to come.

What kinds of photos do you take?

I specialize in outdoor family portraits for display as canvases. I also offer engagement, bridal, maternity, newborn, high school senior, actor and model portfolios, business headshots, weddings and events. You can see a variety of my work at 500px.

What is a family portrait shoot like with you?

A portrait shoot usually starts with e-mail contact, a chat on the phone, and discussion of who will be in the pictures, when and where. I visit the location (often your home or a nearby park) to observe lighting at the given time of day and plan the main shots. Further planning often includes shared Pinterest idea boards and wardrobe choices, with guidance on what outfits look good in pictures vs. only in real life. I can also arrange a hair and makeup artist on-location, and will usually have an assistant on hand to help with lighting equipment, posing and other details. By the time the shutter first clicks, a tremendous amount of prep has been finished, determining the look of the images. The session can last from 30 minutes to a couple hours (depending mostly on the patience of babies and dads), and then I'll take a week to cull and edit the best photos. The last step is our "unveiling," where we sit together and enjoy a slideshow. You choose your favorites and how you would like to display the memories on canvas and albums, then I send them off for production. Finally, someone from Seize the Day will deliver your photos and help hang the canvases in the spots you've chosen.

What area do you cover?

I'm based in Westlake, Texas, and cover the Austin area, though some events take me around the state.

What do your clients say?

"Marco and his wife were amazing!!! Looking forward to seeing our final proofs. We really enjoyed how relaxed everything was." - Lisa Card

"Marco photographed our event, a formal dinner with high school students, and did an outstanding job. He and his assistant were professional and cheerful; they did their job without drawing attention to themselves, which is what you want from a photographer at an event. They did mostly candid shots, and my favorite thing about the pictures was that they captured our guests enjoying the evening. Every time I look at the pictures of the video I smile, because it is obvious that our students are having a wonderful time. Thanks for capturing that, Marco!" - Brooke Hollingsworth

"He is such an incredible photographer with great skills and very creative. Very enthusiastic person over his work. His pictures really come to life!" - Sandra Peña

"I worked with Marco, and he will be my new go-to headshots guy! Super professional and friendly. I was very pleased with my results. But, you know, my hair is going to grow out and I will probably need more photos soon!" - Jules Fox

Why does a professional photographer matter?

If you've never worked with a professional portrait photographer, you're in for a treat! It's a very different experience from just showing up and standing there while someone clicks a camera. My raison d'être is to make you and your loved ones look your very best, even if you don't like the way your pictures usually turn out. Besides many years of experience to master high-end cameras, lenses, lighting and editing software, I train continually to improve at the psychological and artistic subtleties of the craft, through participation in the Professional Photographers of America and the Austin Professional Photographers Association. The creation of beautiful images in physical form is a collaborative process that depends on good communication, clear expectations, thorough preparation and follow-up.

How can I set up a pro bono photography class for my group?

I teach customized, hour-long and continuing sessions for clubs, events, nursing homes, church groups, and other organizations curious about photography. Just send me a message about your group, venue and timeframe, and we'll figure out a way to make it work. (These are not sales presentations.)
